Eczema?

Hiro has been having this red rash on his forehead and around ear for a quite long time now. I thought it’s just something all babies have, so I wasn’t worried about it at all. I just put some moisturising cream in the morning and after bath.  But, at the last visit to a child health center, nurse told me it’s actually eczema.

It was very shocking to me, as I’m a healthy person and so is D.  Is he allergic to something? Is it what I eat and he gets through BM, or, the house is really dirty?? There is no one who is allergic to food and has eczema in D and my family.  But, to think about it, I’m actually allergic to some metals.  Could it be the cause?

My mum told me not to worry too much as some babies have this when they are young.  And, when I told about this to my friend, she said “don’t believe what the nurse told you!”  Her daughter also had similar rash on her face when she was a baby, but it went away eventually.  Her dermatologist recommended vaseline, she said.  I think I will visit dermatologist sometime next week to find out…  I hope it will go away from his face sometime.

Other than the skin problem, he is a very healthy boy. He weighs 5.8kg now, and the face is rounder than ever!

Hiro’s skin dose’nt look bad compare to my son’s when he was at his age. My son was red all over his face and head. His skin was peeled and looked very itchy.
Doctor told me to wait when he reached to 4 months old.Cause that’s the time they usually disappears.
We tried vaseline and sorbolene, both didn’t work well for him, so doctor prescried HYDROCORITISONE ACETATE CREAM.It worked well, and it went away before he finished whole tube.

    Bona,

I guess many babies get red rash when they are young and it’s normal?
Is the Vaseline original one (in a whitish square tub), right? I might try that…
Thanks for sharing your experience. It kind of gave me a relief 🙂

Yes, the Vaseline was original one.

Midwife said she wouldnt recommend Johnson’s body shampoo when skin was sensitive. The perfume they use might make it worse.
I have been using Huggies one for him.

I should have checked my English before I posted previous comment.:p

    Bona,

Thanks! I bought the Vaseline 😀
After stopped using the bath soap (yap, I was using J&J brand), and covered his hands to made him stop scratching/touching his face, I think the rash is already starting to be better.

Hi, ume!! My daughter had the same skin problem when she was less than 6mo. You can try QV,DERMAVEEN, or Cetaphil. They have varies of products you can use. They have the body wash which contains no soap and very gentle to skin. Also the moisturiser as well.
Hope it could help him to cure his eczema. 🙂

Thanks for the info, Keiko 🙂
I’m starting to feel more confident that the rash is just temporary thing and will go away eventually, as you said your daughter also had the same problem.
    Thank you!
