Chocolate Cake with Fresh Fruits

Posted August 2nd, 2011 in Food 4 Comments »

I usually make decoration-cake with vanilla flavour – vanilla sponge cake, whipped cream and fresh fruits.  But, this time, I was asked to make it chocolate flavour.

I know chocolate and strawberries go very well, so strawberries were the first thing I put on the shopping list.  Some fruits wont’ go with chocolate, so I sticked with just few fruits to decorate this cake.

It’s a layered cake with chocolate sponge, strawberries, cocoa cream, and thin layer of rich Italian style chocolate cake and ganache.  Not much sugar it used, so this cake is not too sweet.

The side of the cake is covered with dark chocolate.  It will keep the cake moist, and has a good eye-appeal.

I was asked to make this cake for around 15 people, but I think I made it too big :p

Finished with piped cream, strawberries, peaches, apples and mints from our garden. 🙂

The smell of chocolate and strawberries was so irresistible…..  I nearly poked my finger into the cake!

yummmmmm!!! looks good Ume! 🙂 Your bundle of joy is growing up fast – Hiro looks well and healthy.

Isabelle and I had a fabulous trip back to Malaysia, and I am glad to share with you that all went well, and she turned out to be a great traveller. No dramas on the plane with her, except when the plane was landing and the cabin pressure affected her ears. She had her pacifier and i think that helped a bit. Other than that, she enjoyed herself very much throughout our holidays, and on our MAS flight from KL back to Perth last weekend, she slept a good 2.5hours. I managed to watch a movie too! 🙂 Looking forward to next year’s trip already.

    Hi Anna!

Welcome back 😀 And, good to hear that everything went well!
I hope Hiro is a great traveller too… but I’m not sure :p
Hiro actually doesn’t take dummy, so I’m bit worried. I guess I will give him juice or water when the plane leaves/lands…
Did you use the basinet? Or did she sleep in your arm or on lap? I doubt that Hiro will like basinet… And, during the day he only sleeps maximum 30 mins on the each nap :p

    Hi Ume
Though we did book bassinet seats for our flight out of Perth, it was more for extra leg room/space for Isabelle to walk about rather than for her to use the basinet. She slept in my arms, with her favourite pillow though. 🙂 The trip back to Perth when she slept for 2.5hours straight, she slept with her head resting on her pillow and on my lap, then her body was stretched out on the seat next to me. She must have been really comfortable in that position so ended up sleeping so long.
When Isabelle was younger (around Hiro’s age) she ‘catnapped’ too for 30minutes. I slowly stretched out her ‘awake’ time and she eventually started sleeping for longer stretches during her day naps coz I’d kept her awake longer and she was more tired from playtime.

    Anna,

Right… The space would be useful for a baby! I’m pretty sure he’ll be walking when we fly to Japan, coz his legs are very strong and he likes standing up.
I guess I should be doing the “stretching out the awake time” too. When he is tired from playing he fells asleep very quietly and comfortably too 🙂
